Tiret Presents Personalized Watches For Kanye West and Usher

People used to say that you know you’ve made a huge impact on the world when your name is written in history. Sorry, but it’s so 2008. Apparently in 2011, being ‘written’ is not enough, as you’re nobody until your face is adorned with diamonds and slabbed into a luxurious gold watch. Take Kanye West for instance, who got his face drawn on a gold watch (read: 18k yellow gold, that is).
The watch was made by Tiret, a New York-based
jeweler and watchmaker. Kanye’s watch was personally designed for the rapper, it comes with a gold bracelet or reptile strap. The dial is in gold toned mother-of-pearl decorated with large diamonds. With a total of 8 carats of stones, the retail price of Kanye’s watch is rumored to be $180,000.
Tiret also made a luxury watch for Usher in December 2010 with a personalized design as well. The Usher watch has an oblong oval-shaped case, with a diamond-clad Usher face on the dial. The watch has two Swiss ETA chronograph quartz movements, which technically enables the watch to tell the time in two places. Usher’s watch has almost 10 carats of diamonds and 1106 stones all over the watch. It has attracted attention in a diamond exhibit at the Natural History Museum in London and definitely Usher’s, who paid $250,000 to add it in his personal collection.
Seeing that rappers have gone for smaller chains in the past year, will huge diamond-clad watches be the new ‘dope’ in hip hop? Better yet, will 2011 be the year of true “bling” revival? Share your thoughts!
