golden globes 2011 Dress Predictions for Movie Stars Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman and Others
Earlier this week we predicted the frocks that television actresses will be wearing to this weekend's Golden Globes. And now it's time to do the same for the queen bees of the ball, the movie stars.
First up: Anne Hathaway. With the help of her superstar stylist Rachel Zoe, this 28-year-old brunette (who has wit and beauty to match) has hit it out of the park of late with a series of strapless floor-sweeping gowns with plenty of ruffles and sparkle. Now that she's found her stride, donning a flawless midnight-blue Armani Privé stunner at the 2009 Globes, we can see the nominated actress returning to the red carpet in Armani, Valentino or Marchesa, in a similar strapless silhouette but swapped for a glistening white hue.
Always one of the most photographed actresses of the night (regardless of how boring her ensembles might be), Angelina Jolie has gone for long fluid dresses by St. John (2007) and Atelier Versace (2009) in recent years, and we can't see her going for anything more structured anytime soon (after all, flowing dresses keep the baby-bump rumors swirling). While the actress doesn't have superstrong designer loyalties, she has opted for Versace on several occasions, including, most likely, this year's Globes.
There's one thing we can be pretty sure about when it comes to Halle Berry's Golden Globes ensemble: It'll revolve around her cleavage. The 44-year-old bombshell favors dresses that show off her flawless figure, from the curve-hugging (and boob-baring) Valentino dresses in 2002 and 2005 to her total mishit at the 2010 Globes when she wore an awkward bias-cut dress by Kaufman Franco. Because that last number was such a bomb, we can see Berry going back to the tried-and-true Valentino, Elie Saab or Reem Acra formula for the 2011 Globes, opting for a couture frock in a vivid jewel-tone hue.
A red-carpet chameleon if there ever was on, über-movie star Nicole Kidman has chosen standout frocks (for better or worse) by fashion heavyweights YSL Rive Gauche (2004), Gucci (2005) and Nina Ricci (2010) at recent Golden Globes. Seen as one of the favorites to take home the award for Best Dramatic Actress (although she'll have to wrestle with Natalie Portman to get it), we can see Kidman pumping up the sartorial drama per usual this year and donning one of Tom Ford's creations for his exclusive new womenswear label.
Another actress we can envision opting to support her friend Tom Ford is Julianne Moore, who not only starred in the designer's Oscar-nominated film "A Single Man," but also walked in his top-secret womenswear comeback show in the fall. We can foresee the Globe-nominated actress wearing a custom Ford creation in a bright emerald or cobalt-blue hue to complement her brassy red locks.
